The Hardest Peace

I just finished this great book by Kara Tippetts, one of my blog friends. You can find her blog, Mundane Faithfulness, on my blog roll.

This book tells Kara's story. A story that will be shorter than she anticipated as a young girl. She thought she would grow up, marry, have children, then have grandchildren etc. The dream of many a little girl.

Kara grew up in a home where performance was treasured and she often feared the wrath of her father if she did the wrong thing. But when she became a believer as a teenager she began to see that life is much more than looking perfect. Jesus loved her in spite of her failings.  She married her husband, Jason, and they began serving the Lord together.  She had a good marriage and four beautiful children when she discovered a lump in her breast. She says that she knew right away it was cancer. She was right.

Over two years now of chemo and radiation to keep this disease in check. She longs for each day that she can spend investing in the lives of her children.  When her publisher asked if she would write a book about her story, she did not know if she would live to see the Oct 1, 2014 publication date. Her book relates her struggles but it also reveals to the reader how God has been with her each step of this hard path.

And Kara has been in the news this week. Many of you have heard of Brittany Maynard. She is the 29 year old cancer patient who plans to take her own life via assisted suicide. Ms Maynard moved to the state of Oregon so that she would have this choice to end her life to avoid the pain of the brain cancer. When Kara heard Brittany's story, she reached out to her in love. That letter has been seen around the world thanks to the internet.

This book is part of Kara's legacy and well worth the reading!
