Marvin and I had planned for months our trip to Hotlanta to enjoy Georgia Tech's Homecoming Weekend.  Well Coldlanta would have been a more appropriate name for the city this weekend! We arrived Friday evening and checked in at the lovely Georgia Terrace on Peachtree Street.

We chose the Georgian Terrace because it is within walking distance to Tech ( No looking for parking on campus) and it is right across the Street from the Fox Theater where we planned to see Phantom of the Opera on Sunday afternoon.  Plus, it is just a gorgeous hotel!!

We walked to dinner Friday evening, choosing to dine at Baraonda Italian restaurant at the recommendation of the hotel staff. They were on point...this meal was my favorite of the weekend. I had bruschetta with Marvin for appetizer then Lasagna for dinner. Marvin chose the seafood ravioli and we were both very happy with our meals. Dessert was salted caramel gelato...heaven!! But we noticed it was getting very cold! As we were on the 18th floor of the hotel, we could hear the wind blowing hard all night long. It seemed that the weathermen had made an error in predicting the temperature would be 52 on Game Day. Well I am sure you all heard about the record cold and snowfall in the south....We had planned to go to campus, watch the Rambling Reck parade and take a look at the Homecoming Displays. Well we cancelled those plans, hoping to save our reserves for sitting in the stands at the game.

It was too cold to even take photos so I am borrowing one from the Tech Website.  Here comes the Rambling Wreck!!  We shivered through the first two quarters of the game. Tech was leading so we felt we had to stay!! Then I had quite a surprise at Half Time. I was watching the Jumbo Tron as candidates for Mr and Miss Georgia Tech were escorted to the field.  Imagine my surprise when the mom of one of the candidates was my dear friend Jenny Meeks Grimm. We had been in Nursing School together but I have not seen her since her wedding many years ago. Her son, Frederick, did not win the title but what an honor for Frederick and his parents.( And by the way, they are not related to us that we know of...just a funny coincidence that Jenny and I both married Grimms.)

The pretty red haired mama on the right of the picture standing next to her handsome red headed son, is Jenny. I found this on the Tech site too!!

Believe me, we were frozen to the core after three quarters in the wind. So we walked back to the hotel after the third quarter. I think we both warmed up about midnight!!

The wind was horrible this weekend! The only Tech game I ever attended, it was so cold and it rained!

Arlene, what a shame that the weather did not cooperate. Wonderful that you could see your friend again! - and that hotel looks dreamy!!

Seems like you had a good time, in spite of the cold! What a shame, though, that you couldn't enjoy the entire game. It was cold here in Florida, too. Brrrr!! The hotel looks really nice.
