Teachers

This week was teacher appreciation week here in Alabama.  I had to post this picture of my first grade class. Mrs Mildred Petty was my teacher. I owe her so much because she taught me to read. Of all the things I have learned in school, reading and writing have stayed with me my whole life.  When I hear people say they do not enjoy reading, I feel sorry for them. I know some struggle with reading and comprehension due to dyslexia or other learning difficulties.  Reading has been my comfort and delight for many years and I continue to be  a voracious reader. I am a member of Good Reads. If you are also a member please send me a friend request. So thank you Mrs Petty for opening the world to me through books.

Have you guessed which one is me? I am the fifth from the left in the third row from the bottom . I am the one with the twisted collar on my dress. ( Why didn't someone fix that boo boo???)  And hey my hair was brown...here is proof.  See the little girl in the brown dress who is sitting in the row just below me? Her name is Kathy and we have resumed our friendship via Facebook. We are planning to have lunch one weekend when I am in Georgia. Social media does have its perks.

I like that teacher's name! lol I was not able to pick you out. Sweet photo and how grand that you have connected with an old friend. I love to read, also.

I can definitely tell it is you. The dress is adorable. In fact al of them are. Such a different time. I loved all of my elementary teachers, but my 5th grade teacher was my most favorite of all time.

Arlene, I started looking for myself or my daughters in your picture...so many look the same with girls in plaid or puff sleeved dresses. Love the boys in bibs , cowboy shirt and buzzed hair cuts. LOL. Thank you for teaching. My oldest daughter is a fifth grade teacher. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

I am with you on reading. What an amazing gift that we take for granted .. to be able to read. Your picture is so nostalgic. I loved seeing it. The girl in front of you with the brown dress is who I guessed was you!

What a great way to honor teacher appreciation week. I still remember how popular plaid was for little girls dresses back then. You look adorable, Arlene :)

That class photo looks so much like the one I have from the 1950's. You were blessed to have such a wonderful teacher.

What a precious picture, Arlene! I have fond memories and appreciation for my first-grade teacher, too...Mrs. Thorn. She instilled in me the love of books and when I taught school K-5 was my favorite grade to teach because of being able to pass that on to my students. SO rewarding teaching someone to read!
