Throw Back Thursday

Yes I did have brown hair Margaret!  That sounds rather like Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus, doesn't it? My grands have never seen me with brown hair except in photographs so I can understand their confusion.  I used to color my hair brown then started going lighter until it was blonde. When Kendall was born I decided I was done with coloring my hair and since I was a Nana, I was okay with silver hair. Frankly, I wish I had gone natural sooner...I think it looks better on me than colored hair.  But we all bend to the trends and as I started turning gray in my early 30s I was a bit vain back then.

Marvin made this picture of me in February 1976.  I was a senior in Nursing school and he was working on his PhD at Georgia Tech. We were engaged and would be married in September. It was a beautiful warm day in the midst of winter and we took a picnic to Indian Springs State Park.  It was such a lovely day and I remember it all these years later.   I showed it to my hairdresser, Suzanna and she asked it that was a Shag hair cut. ( Susanna is just a few years older than my children so she does not remember the shag but she had heard of it.)   Yes the shag hair cut was IN along with bell bottoms and platform shoes.

It is fun to walk down memory lane every now and then.  Hope you enjoyed this groovy throw back.

Same boat here. I should have stopped coloring mine long before I did. I would love to have my black hair back, but it is what it is and I think it looks better gray than colored. Love the picture....you were so pretty!
Shags nor wings worked well for me as my hair was naturally curly. The shag turned into a poodle cut for me! After that I was smart enough to be out of style when Farrah's wings came in style. Great throw back.

You look very beautiful! And it's fun to look back especially at the hair do's! I was always blond so sometimes people don't notice that my hair is white now. It's so nice NOT to color your hair! FREEING!!

It IS fun to walk down memory lane and see the styles and fashions, isn't it? I think it is interesting to see the looks from the past and what was popular in different times. You were lovely with brunette hair and lovely now with your natural color. Ah, the shag haircut! Was there anyone who didn't wear a version of that at some time in their life. It was everything. LOL

What a lovely photo that triggers a wonderful memory! I remember the shag haircut; I had it for a couple of years along with bell bottoms and 'lower' platform shoes. Great throwback Thursday post, Arlene!

Ah! The '70s :) I loved seeing your throwback photo, Arlene. I never got a shag--always had long, straight, to-the-waist hair until I got it cut into a shoulder length bob when I began student teaching in an effort to look more mature!

Didn't we all have a shag haircut back then? I sure did. I quit coloring my hair five or six years ago. I had it highlighted for years, letting the gray come in, then just let the high/low lights grow out. I like mine natural much better too. Love the photo and your memory of that day!

You are beautiful inside and out! I remember shag haircuts. I sported a short shag haircut for many years. Those were the days!!

I still have brown hair - because I'm still dying it! :)
