Meanwhile in Murray County

I was poking fun at Alabama yesterday but truly I love living in my adopted state.  In fact, I really think of myself as an Alabamian these days. I have lived here for almost 35 years, much longer than I lived in Georgia.

Of course now we get to visit my hometown pretty often and I enjoy the slower small town pace when I am there.

I have to share this picture that Cousin Scott made at the Murray County High School Homecoming Game last Friday.

Our home town high is known as the Murray Indians.  Of course this name was chosen as our county was in the heart of Cherokee Country before the Trail of Tears.  We are proud of our heritage and at the games our mascot rides onto the field on a horse with a fiery spear held aloft.  I have to say it is a sight to behold. And isn't that a beautiful horse?

Nowdays there are two high schools in the county. North Murray Mountaineers came on the scene a while ago. And if I were going to school now, that would be my high school.  ( Thank Goodness I do not have to repeat high school...not my favorite part of my life!)  I am an Indian at heart and always will be!

How beautiful! I don't blame you about not wanting to repeat high school. My mom's house was across a creek from our high school, yet I managed to be late to my calculus class (first period) nearly every morning. I still have nightmares that the school calls me up to say they reviewed my records and are revoking my diploma because I had too many tardies!

That mascot is indeed impressive! Great picture! I've been out of Ohio for 40 years, but it is still "home" for me.

Beautiful photo! He is so talented. I love that they still use an Indian as a mascot, it's something that has been changed on so many teams.
