Changes

Changes have always been hard for me. I am a creature of habit and routine.  So I was very sad to hear that one of my favorite stores is closing.

Lifeway Christian Book Stores are closing all brick and mortar stores. It was not clear from the article I read if they will have an online store.  I admit I Love and utilize Amazon quite a bit but these big online retailers are proving to be the death to some of the smaller retail stores.  I purchased so many cards and small gifts from Lifeway in the years past. It is just up the road from my house and very convenient.

I was in a book club back in the early 80s and we read a book called Future Shock. That book predicted that in the future people would work from home and buy all their goods from home via the computer. At that time, I did not even have a clue what the internet would be! We had moved to Louisville Ky and for the first time in our lives we had cable tv and we were just amazed by that!! So I guess the future is here and the predictions of that weird book have come to pass.

I do my best to buy locally when I can...we have several lovely gift shops here in Decatur. And where would I be without The Cross Stitch Peddler? So many of my stitchy friends are jealous that I have a local needlework shop in my little town plus another one in Huntsville.  While online shopping is convenient, it is nice to be able to browse in a store, pick up an item and look at it. I get some of my best creative ideas from vignettes in stores.

I will miss you Life Way and I am hoping more of my favorite stores do not close their doors.

I know what you mean. Sometimes a store can make you feel good just to be there. We had a consignment store in a nearby shopping center. I would be there to go to the drugstore, get a quick lunch, etc. I started going into the consignment store and it became a regular stop for me! At least once a week, I'd go in and browse and usually found something. Even if I didn't, it was relaxing and fun for me to spend a little time looking. After many years in business, it closed eight years ago and I STILL miss it.

That is sad to hear the store is closing. Hope they will have online ordering. Times - they are a fleeting.........too quickly. Sometimes good and in this case, not so good.

I always loved shopping in Lifeway! I could spend hours in there with the Bibles and references but also all the pretty things. How sad! But I say that...and I buy online mostly now! It's easier to get exactly what you want. When you're at a store, something you settle on what's available there. Hmmmm! Enjoy your day! Hugs!

Oh Arlene, I am sorry to read about this. Like you, I am a creature of habit and routine. We try to support and shop locally, but we also have found that we do shop the internet a good bit. Hope you have a terrific Thursday!

I had not heard that about Lifeway. There is one in Destin. I must admit to much online shopping as well, but I get frustrated trying to shop these days as you can't find what you want in the stores. I especially hate to see clothing stores go online because that would be the worst. Amazon is taking over.
Creativity in jobs will have to come about. I almost don't know what to tell a young person to study to do these days.

We only have one small, family-owned, Christian book & gift store left in town and we are happy it is here in the south end of town. They do a good business so I hope they are able to stay open for years to come.

There is nothing like roaming around a book store. I must admit that I use Amazon too, but it really is hurting our brick and mortar stores...

I read about Lifeway closings its stores just this week for the first time. The article I read was rather enlightening as to the reason for the closing but I'll not share that here.
