Unpopular Opinions Post

I saw this meme going around on Facebook and thought it would make a good Monday post.  So here are ten things I do not like that most people enjoy.

1. Talking on the phone. I  am just not a big phone talker. My kids are not either. If I want to communicate with them, a text is the best way to get in touch.

2. Alcohol   I have never found the taste of any alcohol appealing.  I am glad I do not like it as we have had several alcoholics in our family tree. I really prefer Coca Cola.:)

3. Grits. Most southerners love grits. I can eat them if there is enough cheese in them as in Cheesy Grits or Shrimp and Grits.  But plain grits for breakfast is not appealing to this Belle.

4.War Movies.  I tried to watch Unbroken with Marvin but I could not take it. He watches war movies upstairs in the man cave.

5. Church Choruses.....sorry...give me the old hymns any day.

6. Exercise. Basically I am a slug by nature. I do make my self walk and I will go to the gym when they re open as I want to use my Silver Sneaker membership but I will never enjoy it.

7. Chinese Food. I avoid these restaurants like the plague. I have tried but it does not appeal to me.

8.Egg Salad. UGH! I cannot even think about it without gagging.

9. Baseball.  This game could go on forever!! I love college football, basketball is okay but baseball...eh, no.

10. Camping. Why sleep outside in a tent when you have a perfectly good bed and air conditioning at home. Amelia says she is going to get tee shirts for me and Kendall that read, INDOORSY! Yes that is me.

I love this post and can agree with you on several. I do not like grits, I am not into baseball, I am definitely a slug but even more so during this time, and I want the old hymns - not the bands of today. Hope your Monday is a good day.

Good post idea Arlene. I love grits, but my southern surprise is I loathe tea in any form. IT is horrid IMO.
I do like baseball and am missing having conversations with Paul Allen about it. I think I don't drink alcohol in any form either and can't really understand how anyone likes it either. Lots of alcoholics in the family as well and something that caught my attention in high school was that it kind of travels in the gene pool. That and a promise made to my grandfather kept me far away from it.
Now, I don't care for Chinese food either and this is going to sound totally crazy, but I love Thai food. There is a big difference. Every time I eat Chinese food I feel sick afterwards and have too many bathroom visits to eat it anymore. Too much info:) However, Thai food is very popular in our area and it is the only Thai food I eat. Like I am not going to another state and eat Thai. They settled here with the Saigon airlift and their food is all over our area and it is quite tasty. Bet you didn't know there was a difference.
Fun post!

Oh Arlene, I chuckled as I ready your post today. Your response to #10 is exactly what both my husband and I say when people tell us they are going camping. There are more on your list that I would say I am in total agreement with. Have a good day!

This is a good list! And fun to make me think about what we have in common. I don't like Chinese food either though my hubby does, if it's fresh and good. I hate grits and don't have the patience to watch baseball. And guess what....I don't like to talk on the phone either. I like to get a call but rather it be short and sweet! Have a good day and thanks for sharing!

That was a fun read!! I hate talking on the phone, too. I have never been a beer drinker but do enjoy a glass of wine now and then. I do enjoy grits but Joe hates them! I will watch a war movie with Joe as long as there is an interesting story-line included. Just shooting people and explosions don't do it for me. I much prefer the old hymns to the new Christian music. Fortunately, our Praise Team is good about including at least one hymn each Sunday. Exercise... what a bad word!! I do love Chinese food, as well as Vietnamese and Thai. I make a good egg salad and enjoy it (sorry!). Yep... not a baseball fan and I will never go camping. Give me a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, and someone else to clean up! Happy Monday!

PS Thanks for making my day a little brighter at mail time! So sweet of you to send me a card! HUGS!!! It made my day!

I agree with you on most of these.
I can watch a war movie if it has a good story, I love Chinese food, egg salad is ok. I say camping is ok, in a camper, with running water and electricity!

This is fun! Here are my replies:

#1 Like you I don’t like to talk on the phone. And I’m not a big Face Time fan, either. Texting and email suit me just fine.

#2 we don’t drink either (well, except for Sweet Tea, of course)

#3 no grits here, either, although I can swallow them. Beloved can’t.

#4 I can watch some war movies but not the most gruesome ones.

#5. Like you, I can worship so much better with the old hymns.

#6 Not a gym person. Walking is my exercise of choice. We try to log 2 miles a day, Monday - Friday

#7. I’m okay with Chinese Food

#8 I’m eating a mostly plant-based diet of late, so eggs are a no-no.

#9 Baseball — boring

#10 My favorite camp site is Holiday Inn Express!

I'm with you on every one except for the exercise and the egg salad, Arlene! I LOVE EGG SALAD!!! And I can't say I love exercise, but I do enjoy the feeling it gives me when I'm done. I try to walk 4-5 miles a day and it truly helps my anxiety level :)

Arlene, too cute! I don't mind talking on the phone. I agree with you on grits, alcohol, church choruses, Chinese food, and exercise! I rather like war movies. I think you'd like the old movie, Bridge on the River Kwai.

Arlene, I enjoyed this post, we have quite a few things in common. I don't like talking on the phone either. I do like red wine and beer but not hard liquor. I have tried grits a few times when in the south and think they are horrible. I have watched a few war movies with my husband and I certainly don't enjoy them at all. If you offered me a million dollars to eat an egg, I would tell you to keep it. I just gag at the thought of eating eggs, in any shape or form!! My husband used to eat at a really good Restaurant in Chinatown in NYC with quality Food and would bring me home half his meal and then I would take it to work the next day for my lunch. ( this was in the 90's) That was the last time I had good Chinese food, what you get in most restaurants is sub par food.
I don't like exercising in a gym but if I miss my daily walk I'm lost...I walk at least 2 1/2 miles to 5 miles every day.
I LOVE my MEts!!! Baseball is the only sport I can watch on tv. I hate football. And, I'm with you, we used to camp years ago all the time but those days are over.
