Georgia on My Mind

We had such a nice trip to Georgia...the perfect birthday weekend.  The weather was wonderful and the rain stayed away which is a bit unusual because it seems like it rains a lot there lately.

Finally some WARM weather, perfect for sitting on the porch swing.

My view from the swing.  I forgot to take my magnifier with me for stitching so I did a good bit of reading on the porch this trip.

Can you spot Mr King Snake? I saw him while I was chatting on the phone with Deborah.  I thought at first it was a snake skin but then I realized he was moving! We do not kill the king snakes as they feast on mice and they will kill and eat venomous snakes. Marvin saw three snakes this weekend.  Non poisonous. This year it seems that copperheads are plentiful so I want the King Snakes to hang around and take care of those bad boys.

The cows were enjoying a nice day under the shade trees. One new baby calf was born while we were there.  They are so sweet.

On Saturday we traveled to Ellijay, Georgia so I could have lunch at my favorite restaurant, Cantaberry's. Located on the square, it is a neat place to eat and people watch. I thought we would have to wait for a table due to social distancing, the restaurants cannot seat a lot  of people at one time. However we walked right in.

We are not the best at selfies.lol

Chicken and Wild Rice Soup....oh my goodness, it is good for what ails you.

After lunch I visited my favorite soap store, Green Willow Soaps. I picked up quite a selection. Earlier in the day we visited Panorama Orchard. The store was not open for shopping but you could place your order and they brought it to the door where you paid.  We got Apple Cider, Apple Cider donuts ( for Amelia), Apple Butter and an Apple Pie to share with my family on the porch Saturday evening. Instead of a cake, I had a birthday pie.

Coming home we drove across Fort Mountain, instead of going around the mountain. It had probably been 40 years since I had been on that road. I was surprised to see the number of private residences there these days. We can see some houses from our vantage point in the valley.   I am glad Marvin was driving as it was very curvy!

We pulled over at a scenic overlook for some pictures.

It was a beautiful day...clouds were so pretty.

Our farm is down in the valley.

Mountains all around.

This picture of Cousin Scott's shows the mountain we were riding across.

Old Fort Mountain....a constant in my young years growing up in the valley.  It always says HOME to me.

Happy Belated Birthday Arlene, What a lovely way to celebrate!! The mountains of Georgia are so beautiful! It must have been a lovely getaway. Love the photo of the cows under the tree, they know a cool spot! We get big black snakes here and I won't have them killed either. They keep the mice at bay. The soup looks so good! Are there many orchards in Ga? Lots by me so I always buy fresh cider, I even freeze it for the summer.

So glad you had a good weekend. I am a 'mountain mama' so I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the pictures of those mountains. Glad you got to eat at your favorite place too. Hope the upcoming weekend is a good one for you.

Happy Birthday! The pictures are so pretty and it is truly wonderful to have a place to just get away and relax. It probably did you good to not have the magnifier with you. Just read, relax, and unwind.

Happy Birthday. I must say when I taught in South Carolina in the 90's...my first jobs...I didn't like the bugs or the snakes. When they told me to check my washer and dryer before using...ok...that about did it for me. I am still getting used to the little lizards around the pool-family in Florida. Yuck...sorry...love the blog...

I have to add I loved loved living near Myrtle Beach...made it all worth it. I also love watching the boys in the pool...so the little lizards are ok. Love the south....

What a beautiful post. You took us to some wonderful areas with the green trees, blue-blue skies, and those pretty puffy white clouds.

Selfies. They are hard to take, aren't they? And then when we are on Zoom Bible studies, it's like one long selfie. I don't like that. (smile)

But at the same time, it was good to see you and Marvin. You make a handsome couple.
