Down on the Farm

We spent the week at Grimmwood and enjoyed seeing the beautiful crops that Bruce has planted for his cattle. This is a type of sorghum that is planted for the cattle to eat. Bruce turned the cattle into this pasture last week and he said that they probably thought they had died and gone to heaven.:) Even the livestock deserves a treat. This is a great foraging plant and high in nutrients as well.
The corn was looking good too.  Kristi took these pictures and shared them with me.
This last picture is of Bruce bush hogging in the pasture near the driveway to Grimmwood. Bush hogging is just a way of life for the farmer in the summer time.  It sure was hot last week. Farmers are to be thanked for the job they do for our country.

I am trying to get used to this new Blogger platform so pardon me while I learn how to orient photos etc. It takes me a while to adjust to new things!

Interesting to see the sorghum growing. It was a very hot week but we did finally receive rain.

Beautiful photos and farming is such hard work. I miss the days of the small farmer though. Maybe that will be a good thing that will come out of all this mess...back to the days of the small farmer.
I do not like Blogger either. I like things simple. I did learn that the little pencil
(I think that is it) will let you size pictures the old way rather than the plus sign.

Nice pictures of the farm - makes me think of when we lived on a farm, rearing our children. I am still having problems with the new blog outlay too but we just have to keep working on it. I dont do change well either.

Good Morning Arlene, I enjoyed reading your blog today. I live in a rural farming community, and had never heard of sorgum until a few years ago. I would confuse it with corn. Thankfully my husband knew the difference. I have never seen cattle grazing in the fields though, and I am sure it is a real treat:) I love watching the corn grow in summer. Thank you for the pics and for sharing, many blessings to you and yours...

The crops are doing very well here too. My Dad was a farmer and I had to take him to an appt on Friday. He was enjoying looking at all the crops and how well they are growing.
I enjoyed your pics today.

The sorghum looks so similar to the corn crop. We live in onion country here, I love driving through the area and the scent of the onions. I'm in a semi-rural area and I love seeing the crops. Farming must be a rewarding occupation but boy is it a tough one for the smaller farmer.
