The Stream

Well its October in Alabama and still lets just go for a swim!!

1. I was very proud of myself for getting the winter comforter dry-cleaned and back on the bed. Now we turn the AC down and the Ceiling Fan on high and we are still sweating.:) I also cleaned the Summer bedspread and I have it stored away until next year! Hoping the cooler temps show up soon.

2. I went back to Hobby Lobby to get a big tray identical to the one I used for my November finish I shared on Saturday. Would you believe that they were ALL gone?  Oh well, I will have to come up with another idea for a finishing piece.

3. In addition to putting my Winter Comforter on the bed, I began to change out my closet. I just know that one day we will wake up and it will be chilly and I will need a long sleeved top. I always take this time to go through each piece of clothing in my closet. Toss or Donate is my motto. I have given up on Yard Sales, I would rather donate my gently used clothes to someone who can use them.

4. Katie at Preppy Empty Nester had a cute post about handbags on Saturday. If you know me at all you know I never met a purse I didn't like ( or want!).  I have tried to purge my closet but someone keeps putting new purses on my closet shelf. I wonder who that could be?

5.  I am looking for some good  shoes that give support but are still stylish. I would appreciate any suggestions you ladies might have.  I remember my elementary school teachers wearing lace up shoes that I thought of as OLD LADY shoes. I may be ready for those myself. I tried those thigh high panty hose in a pinch so I might be an old lady myself.

6. I was reading an article online about a movie star who is becoming a grandmother for the first time and her only thought about the good news was that she did not want to be a grandma.  That made me feel so sad for her.  You may not want to be a grandma but you cannot be a young person forever.  I see so many women who seem frantic to remain young and it makes me want to give them a stern lecture about the blessings of growing older. Being a Grandma is one of the major blessings of getting older.

7. I must admit I am addicted to the Real Housewives of Floss Tube, Chelsea and Priscilla. I look forward to Saturdays as that is when they post a new video on their channel. I was in Hobby Lobby picking out some Reds, Greens and Golds for Christmas Stitching when my phone pinged. Chelsea and Priscilla had posted their video early!!Well I paid for my floss and headed home so I could see what the latest is on their stitching and finishing.  I have to also admit that I get lots of my finishing ideas from Priscilla. She is very creative and is so generous in sharing her ideas with her viewers. Thanks Priscilla.

We are off to Grimmwood this weekend. It is Homecoming at GA TECH.  B E A T   Beat Duke. We play them a lot at Homecoming. It is always fun to walk around the campus and to see all the Homecoming Decorations as well as picking up lots of fan freebies. Go TECH...sting em.

Good morning, Arlene. Thanks for the shout-out! The reason I am not a shoe person is that I can't find any that are comfortable. I just roll my eyes at the women who are not proud to become grandmas. Have a good weekend.

I wish I knew a good shoe that would look stylish for winter outfits. I wear sandals in the summer but hate to wear 'sneakers' with long pants. I have some black sneakers and that's the best I've been able to do. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. I hope we can relax! Hugs!

Wish I had some shoe advice, but I don't:(
I did find some loafers made by Bass that I got at the outlet last year. They were comfortable. They had some kind of special foamy insole.
I think we all wish we could extend time and not grow old, but those that bemoan it all the time miss out on the blessing of being older too. I can't wait to be a grandma. Any day now.

I am the wrong person to ask about shoes since I have big size 12s that require me to either order my shoes or buy men's. Sorry Hobby Lobby didn't have the supplies you needed for your finishes. Enjoy your weekend at the cabin!!

Arlene, how did you fair with the weather? I still have our summer quilt on the bed. If I were to put on a warmer one, it would get hot again outside for sure. And WHO on earth doesn't want to be a grandmother/nana? That is just ridiculous. Hopefully, she will change her mind once she sees the baby. I (as you do) &heart; being a nana.

Here in northeast Florida, I think I can wait a couple more months to get the warmer clothes handy -- although I'd love to need them now.

You're right, Priscilla on Flosstube has some extremely clever finishes for her cross stitch!

I need to start cleaning out my closet. It's been so crazy here though - shorts one day, sweatshirts the next!
Shoes are no longer an easy purchase - hope you find some good ones, and if you do, you need to share!

Love reading your blog! ((hugs))

Isn’t it a great feeling when you purge your closet? My husband and I recently cleaned out our 15-year-old’s closet (a task we had been neglecting for FAR too long) and we filled about 20 (!!) shopping bags to donate.

I love Priscilla & Chelsea’s videos, too. My husband and I like to see baby Cash.

I’m not yet a grandmother. (My only son, mentioned above, would have some serious explaining to do! Haha!) But as I grow older, I don’t feel older. In my mind, I’m still a kid trying to figure out this “grown up” thing. I think age is a state of mind. You can very much be young at heart and be called “Grandma,” and still be a rock star. When you tell yourself you’re old, and you act old, you’re old.

A friend of mine compared aging to playing a video game. “I didn’t just turn a year older,” he said, “I leveled up!” As someone with a terminal illness, I can honestly say that I EMBRACE birthdays and the life changes that come with them. Bring it on! I made it to the next level! Wahoo!

Oh, Hobby Lobby LOVE. Because of your blog, I went there for the first time last week. It put all the other big-box crafts stores to shame. Be still my beating heart!

Have a great weekend!
