Spring Style

Every now and then I like to pretend I am a fashionista. I pick up a style magazine for the new season to see what is on trend.  I recently picked up In Style Magazine for March as it was touting what we can look forward to in spring 2019.  I am going to preface this post by saying that I like to be stylish yet age appropriate.  I do not want to be a 63 year old woman acting like she is 30.  Mainly I want to know what colors are big for spring as well as the trend in shoes and handbags.

My first thought on paging through In Style was that PINK is here for spring. The Pantone color of the year is coral but it seems most of the designers took the coral to pink. I love the color pink and I think it is flattering on most women.  Really light blue and lavender are also popular for spring. Of course pastels just seem to say spring to me. I remember Easter Sundays when I was a girl and how we were all dressed in Pastels for church. The white Patent leather shoes came back out and if you were truly fancy you wore little white gloves.  Just another reminder of how time has changed as  Sunday is just another day and Easter is not celebrated as it was in yesteryear.

Alright you ladies who were teens in the 70s you will be glad to hear that you can pull out that blue eye shadow and rock it in the spring. Bold eye shadow is the in thing apparently.  I tended to wear a green/gold eye shadow as I have blue green eyes and that looked best on me. Remember when everyone rimmed their eyes with dark blue liner?

And if you liked the 80s....bold colors and color blocking is back. Also neon is in favor this spring. Although most stylists say that a little neon goes a long way so calm it down with a jacket please.

Florals are also in style. From big to small scale, lots of floral designs were seen on the runway at Fashion Week. Polka Dots are also making a come back.

Shoes tend to the Booties that have been in favor for a while. Cowboy boots are also on trend...even with dresses and shorts.  Oh and shorts are back and they tend to look like the preppy 80s styles. Truly what is old is new again.

Purses lean to the sporty look with lots of straw bags being shown in New York   I have a pretty pink purse that I picked up on sale last fall so it is waiting patiently in my closet for Easter. I also have my Easter outfit as well. It is a light teal dress with a matching paisley cardigan with some pink in it. I will be right on trend for one day anyway!

Thank you, Arlene, for the fashion news! I always wore white gloves to church on Sunday when I was young. I am happy to hear that floral prints are back again...especially the small floral prints. I think that floral prints are so feminine.

You did a great job summarizing that for me now I will not have to go Internet searching and trying to look at those pictures to see how to make it work for the regular person. You need to that with each season for us.
I do wear a subtle blue on my eyes, but will not be going back to the bold blue:)
I might need a straw purse though:) I will be searching for that!

Interesting reading, Arlene! Thank you for sharing the highlights. I had to chuckle about the blue eye shadow; I can remember caking that stuff on. Have a good day!

Blue eye shadow is coming back? I remember using it constantly. I don't think I'll be making a visit to the drug store soon to pick up some. No reason to draw more attention to my wrinkles!

Yep~I was a blue eye shadow wearer back in the 70s :) Don't think I'll be revisiting that trend!! I don't even where eye shadow now except on a rare very dressy occasion :)

Arlene, hooray! I love pink! A soft pink - almost a blush. No bubblegum pink for me!

I am always happy when old styles come back because some of my clothes are a dozen years old! Ha!! I do like pink and look okay in it. No eye shadow for me, especially that blue from back in the day. It is fun to look at fashion magazines. I just go for comfort but do miss those days when Easter outfits were exciting with white shiny shoes and lacy gloves!! Don't forget the hat and the corsage!!

I remember wearing blue eye shadow - not sure I'm ready for it to come back! :)
I do like that floral is coming back though.

I love the sound of your Easter outfit Arlene. Oh yes we wore really pretty dresses, white gloves, patent leather shoes, and a hat for Easter that had a flower on it.

Never wore blue eye shadow. Sometimes a smidge of taupe but that's it.
