Around Nanaland Today

Don't you enjoy a day that has nothing on the agenda but what ever you wish to do ?  I had one of those days. I started it by doing some laundry.  Then I worked on a little craft.

I picked up this little pumpkin at The Dollar Tree the other day. But it did not look exactly like this. It was topped with a cheap raffia bow that was easily detached.  I went to my ribbon box and found some of my black and white gross grain ribbon. ( I have mentioned here that black and white ribbon is my go to for crafts and I always keep several rolls of dots, stripes and gingham on hand) I simply tied the polka dot ribbon in place and what a difference it makes in the look of a cheap little Dollar Tree Pumpkin.

While at Dollar Tree, I found these.....

You never know what you will find at Dollar Tree. You have to look at everything and view it with eyes that are open to using things in different ways.

Here is what I used this for.

Now my little wax threaders are ready to give to special stitchers. The beeswax was free, the crock pot was $2 and the paint liners were about $2. So this was a very thrifty craft.( We won't think about all the money Marvin put into his bee keeping endeavor!!) Several people have asked if we are going to sell our honey. We tell everyone that it would be about $200 a jar.:) We would much rather bless our friends with the fruits of our labor.

What have you been up to at your house lately? I love to picture my blog friends puttering around their homes, enjoying a quiet day at home.

Arlene, I simply love your little sunflower corner on the bar counter. The stitching of sunflowers has been the perfect thing for August. Over red, white and blue, but it is still full on summer. The colors are just what the mind needed. I love your little pumpkin with the new bow. No one would ever know it came from the dollar store. Your honey will be a blessing for sure and a great hobby for Marvin. Of course, you worked pretty hard too:)

Thank you for your comment on unicorns-I found an ornament at Hobby Lobby and used my own more colorful colors-grand girl loved it
I give family ornaments through the year-just finished designing flags of Greece and Italy for another grand-she studied there this year for college-gave with her birthday! Have a plethora of ornaments ready for Christmas also!
Keep writing!

What a cute little pumpkin you found, Arlene! I love your ribbon touch to it. Those little containers work well for your waxers. Good find!

Today, we have nothing on our calendar except a trip to town for lunch. I do need to dry mop, but it will be nice to have a quiet day here.

I love the pumpkin. Great idea!

And yes, the sunflower corner ... just lovely.

Believe it or not, I just completed a cross stitch piece -- a baby sampler for friends. Just have to find a simple frame.

Now, I am feeling the itch to start another one. In sorting through old photos from Prince Edward Island, I found a cross stitch chart of Green Gables that I had completely forgotten about. It is simple and I think it will be my next project.

Did I share this Etsy shop with you? Tiny Modernist. Lots of projects here I want to try!

As for my day, so far it has been a walk at 6 am, grocery shopping at 7 am, then my quiet time and putting away groceries. Scrubbed the kitchen sink. Have chicken in the slow cooker (to cut up and freeze) and laundry in the washer. Just ordered some birthday gifts off my grandson Micah's wish list and now it's time for lunch. After lunch I may give myself some fun time and then Mr. T and I have an appointment regarding a land sale at 3:30. I feel as if I've accomplished very little today, but when I see it written out it looks like quite a lot!

The little wax threaders are SO cute! What a clever idea! I don't go to the Dollar Tree very often but now I'm tempted to stop by. I've been cleaning house and can't wait for a day when I can play around instead of clean! That day is coming....!!! Hugs!

Those little containers you found are perfect for your wax threaders!! I love the dollar stores... we have all three close by and visit often! Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. Good bargains to be had in all of them! Your pumpkin decoration is so cute with the new bow. Great ideas!

Great idea to add black and white ribbon to the pumpkin, it's adorable. I need to check the dollar stores more. I love your sunflower display and the wax threaders fit right in. I have to laugh about your 200$ a jar honey!!

No crafting going on here, though I did pick lots of wineberries and freeze them to use during the year. That in itself is a chore, picking and cleaning. It's the off year for them so not enough to make jam.

Arlene, that pumpkin is darling! Your ribbon makes it look moreso!! I've not seen those little containers at Dollar Tree before. I will have to keep my eyes open for them. Great for your wax threaders.

I don't know how you find all of these adorable things at Dollar Tree. I was just there tonight and only came out with gift bags, fillers, tissue paper, soap, and batteries. I looked for the cute pumpkin but it was not there. RJ
