On the High Seas

Sunday was a cloudy and windy day but it did not keep us from some beach time. I rather like a cloudy day at the beach because I do not have to worry too much about my porcelain( Ultra White) skin!!

There were two flags flying on the beach. One was red. That means you should stay our of the water because of rough surf and riptides. Everyone was obeying as there were several drownings in the Gulf this summer. The second flag was a purple flag warning everyone that jelly fish are in the water right now. We also saw a lot of gelatinous blobs on the beach so we googled Gelatinous Blobs on Gulf Beach to find out they are Salps. They might look like a jelly fish but they are not even in the same group biologically. These little creatures eat algae....and there is a good bit of that in the water right now as well.

Marvin and I were glad to just sit in our beach chairs under our umbrella. We read and watched the huge waves. We did see a sail boat...

They were advertising something but the waves were so big we could not read the writing on the body of the sailboat.

We did enjoy the mermaid.

We sure do enjoy our days at Gulf Shores.

If y'all get a chance check out the Gulf Shores Zoo. Its alot of fun and they have added a new restaurant. You have the opportunity to hold a baby kangaroo or sloth and other baby animals. You're also only a few hours away from the Bellingrath house and gardens if you like that sort if thing. If you want to bring some seafood home take the long drive to Billy's, you'll see the signs. They have the best fresh seafood and there is a cool old schoolhouse to see on the way, the last time we went it was still in use. If you want good shells (for free!) go out to Fort Morgan early, early, early:) We stayed next to a couple one year who had big, beautiful shells piled at their door from Fort Morgan. Are you stitching? I'm trying to decide what I should take for the drive. I'm working on a Christmas gift for my mil so that will probably be it. Hopefully the weather will get better for you! Almost forgot, there use to be a cross stitch shop on the way to Foley in a tiny building with 2 other shops. Might be worth checking out. Have fun!!

Interesting that they put out a flag warning about jellyfish! You are so right about cloudy days on the beach, but hope you did slather on the sunscreen. What a cool sail on that sailboat!

So happy you can have this time! We are planning a getaway at our favorite lake cabin up in the Great North Woods, the end of this month. So looking forward to it!

Sounds like a perfect day at the beach! I don't care to go in the water anymore so the flags would not have bothered me!

Awww, fun! My dad sails. When we were young he took us on an extended sailing voyage through the San Juan Islands (near Whidbey Island in WA). Such fond memories of that trip. Eating dinner at the little table in the cabin and our plates sliding back and forth with the waves... haha! Those were the days before I got seasick!

Sounds like a good day to stay out of the water! Still so fun though, and I love your view. That sailboat shot is awesome!
