Christmas Trip

Marvin and I decided to take a short overnight trip to Oxford MS for our Christmas gift. Oxford is about three hours west of us and an easy drive. We stopped for lunch in Tupelo MS. Tupelo is the hometown of Elvis Presley and you can see evidence of this all over the small town. But I was surprised to find that Tupelo was not as small as I thought it would be. There was a lovely old fashioned department store there that I would have loved to browse but we were on a schedule.

We had lunch at Kermit's Outlaw Kitchen as recommended on Trip Advisor.

It was located in an old building on Main Street. We placed our order and went upstairs to wait for it to be served to us.

Marvin got an unusual burger as it was a burger made with brisket, stacked with Conecuh Sausage and a fried egg.

Well I chose a BLT as I do not like eggs on my burgers!!

Here is a picture of the old courthouse...

I love towns that feature a square!

Another hour and we were in Oxford. We could not check into our hotel until 3 so we drove to Ole Miss and walked around.

We had perfect the sixties and a bit overcast.

The famous Grove. On football Saturdays this area is filled with very elegant tailgateing parties. Ole Miss is known for  their fancy tailgating that can include a chandelier. Ole Miss fans are Fancy for sure.

The football team walks down this brick walkway on their way to the stadium on Game Day. All the fans cheer them on.

Ole Miss stadium. We were fortunate to be on campus while the students were gone. We had the place to ourselves.

Many of you know I liked the book Rush, by Lisa Patton. It is about sorority life at Ole Miss. Well they take sorority life very seriously. I though I would show you some of the Sorority houses.

I could not believe how elegant these houses were....all were decorated for Christmas.

So pretty.

And here is the Delta Delta Delta house. I have heard they answer the phones with Delta Delta Delta can we help ya help ya help ya? :)

Their Christmas decor was JOY spelled out on the long windows.

By the time our feet were worn out it was time to head to our hotel. And while we enjoyed Ole Miss we really liked downtown Oxford. Come back on Wednesday for pictures.

Wow!! I never knew sorority houses were so elegant!! Beautiful decorations. Now that is how a courthouse should look!!! Beautiful, stately building. I don't eat eggs at all but the burger looks good minus the egg! That is an odd combo!! The restaurant looks neat!!

I enjoyed your tour of Ole Miss and it is a beautiful campus. I have a cousin who is there now in school. Those soroity houses are something else. There must be lots of $$$$$ around there. Hope this new week will be good for you and you have a Happy New Year.

How nice to get places early enough to walk around and take photos! I love college campuses. I grew up in a small college town in Arkansas. Happy New year!

I think she chose the right campus to describe the book in Rush. Auburn is one of the few colleges that does not have sorority houses, just fraternity houses. The girls just have a room in a dorm.
Jeff and I want to visit all the SEC schools when he retires...maybe for an away game.

That looks like such a fun trip with Marvin, Arlene! Can't get over those sorority houses--they are mansions! My mom always talked about living in her sorority house at Ohio University and said it was quite luxurious compared to the dorms! Will look forward to Wednesday's photos :) Happy New Year!

What beautiful homes you shared of the Ole Miss Sorority Houses! I really like the greenery that made up the word, Joy. Marvin's burger looked good except for the egg on top. How was your BLT, Arlene? It sounded like you had a good adventure!

Ole Miss is a lovely town. My parents both graduated from Ole Miss and so did my daughter. She loved it and love the sorority life!

Wow, this is a road trip I am taking notes on! This would be an easy one for us too, one I haven't though of. Looks like it was a good time to go, when the students are away :) Believe me I know, living here. I'd pass on the burger with an egg, nope, I don't eat eggs period but yes to an all American burger. Although I'm not eating beef now, I'm hopeless! I really enjoyed your post and the photos. Happy New Year sweet friend.........
