Friday Five

1. Amelia sent this to me for a chuckle. Did your mother ever tell you to quit being ugly. It is a Southern Thing. It has a special meaning to us because it brings back a memory of a three year old Kendall. We were in New Jersey for son Charles' wedding. It had been a long drive, all the tensions that go with weddings and Kendall had just about had her fill. She and Grandpa were outside the church before the rehearsal, enjoying a small playground on the property. Marvin asked her, " Are you ready to go inside and be nice or are you going to stay out here and be ugly?" ( Stupid Question award, Grandpa) She replied, "I want to stay out here and be ugly!!!"

2. Marvin caught this picture of a hummingbird on her nest in a tree just off our front porch at Grimmwood. Isn't it amazing?

3. The Rolling Store. I took a snapshot of this picture my mother had in an old scrapbook of hers. The Rolling Store was stopping at a farm in our county.   I just loved the Rolling Store.

4. Flowers from my sweet neighbor. They were right out of her yard. Daisies are such a cheerful flower.  Remember that line from You've Got Mail????

5. Covid Humor....Sometimes we just have to laugh. And I did when I saw No David, turned to No. Covid. ......Masks for Sale instead of Caps for Sale and finally Alexander has a very bad year and not just a bad day. As for Miss Nelson, I am not sure who she is but as a preschool teacher, I regularly read the other three books to my class.

Love hummingbirds and have never seen one on a nest - neat! Also used to get excited when the rolling store came around. I probably would haven chosen to 'be ugly' too. Good memories and good pictures this morning. Have a blessed day.

Those daisies would put a smile on anyone's face. A thoughtful gesture, for sure.
That is a cute story about Kendall. Thanks to Marvin for sharing the hummer with her nest. So tiny and sweet.
Wishing you a nice weekend.

Those daisies are so pretty. I have missed fresh flowers this year. Since I hardly ever go to the grocery store myself I have really missed picking up a few flowers. They look so pretty on the newly painted table. The hummingbird is adorable. I love bird watching so I would be glued to the front porch. Yes, I remember don't be ugly. How things have changed? You can't say anything these days.

Hi Arlene, I enjoyed reading your blog today. But, I just have to comment on that AMAZING Humming Bird picture. I put out two feeders ever year, and I have yet to see a nest in a tree. They are so very tiny. Just a little update and a thank you for all of the prayers, please keep praying. It has been almost two weeks since surgery and I know I am getting stronger, but I still have a lot of leg pain. Your's and the prayers of so many have given me strength to keep going. Thank you so much. Many blessings to you and yours.

I had an elementary teacher who would say "Quit being ugly" and we could always tell when it was coming. I loved the memory of Marvin and Kendall's conversation at the playground. Marvin's hummingbird picture is stunning. How lucky he was to capture a hummingbird's nest! Your daisies are so pretty. Thank you for the Covid book chuckle, Arlene! Happy Friday!

Tha;t hummingbird nest looks like it is made from candy or coconut! Wow! Love the daisies... my favorite flower and I agree they are just so cheerful! Cute t-shirt and how cute that Amelia remembered it from the wedding day! I'm sure Kendall was serious about staying outside and being ugly! Happy weekend!
