Decorating at Grimmwood and Nanaland

I think staying at home and at Grimmwood a bit more, I have noticed some things that needed a little change.

I will start at Grimmwood.

After I purchased my bookcase, I felt that the wall looked a little unbalanced. I did not want another big piece in that area as it is near the front door. I remembered I had seen some blanket ladders at Clearys in Chatsworth. This young man has brought Chatsworth into the 21st century with his modern day farmhouse style of furniture.  I have seen several things there that I would definitely purchase if my home there were bigger.  I found just what I was looking for and brought it home.  Then I remembered a Cathedral windows throw that Mama G had given to me years ago. It would look perfect there.

Here is a close up.

I also purchased some command hooks to use for my gallery wall.  I was so tired of having to straighten  pictures each time the side door was opened.

On to Nanaland.  Since I have been married almost 44 years, I have some furniture that has seen better days. Case in point was the set of lamps I had in my bedroom. These lamps are probably 30 years old. I remember buying them for my living room on Rigel Drive.....two houses ago. It was a big deal to me because I spent a good bit of money for them.  They were in my living room on Brandywine Lane and when we moved here, they went to my bedside tables.  An idea struck me to paint them an apple green to freshen them up. The lamp shades were rather dingy so a trip to Lowes for new ones and I was in business.

Close up.

Sometimes you just need a new view! It worked for me.

Has Marvin had any luck with his bees this year?

New lampshades! Most of the time we don't notice things like that but what a difference it makes. Perfect time with the days getting shorter now. And I love that ladder. If I had a place for one, I would like one to display a quilt too. Beautiful changes!

Everything you added it just perfect. Let me start first by saying I love both wall colors. I know white is the new thing, but we all had white decades ago and it like wallpaper was one of those things I vowed never to return to. I love both as they are the perfect backdrop to your framed pieces. Now, the quilt is just perfect on that wall. It balanced it perfectly and looks so pretty. I am sure if you are sitting on the opposite wall you just glow. The lamps look perfect with their new color and the lampshades were the perfect for color and balance. I don't know what you had but I really love those. Making me think I need to get some new ones now. That was not your goal huh?! Anyways, they look just perfect.

Oh my Arlene, this post was as good as your Saturday stitching! So many great ideas. I know I need to buy some command strips. I love how you have your pictures arranged on the walls. I know that took some time and thought. And, the quilt stand is perfect! The quilt is a treasure indeed. And, I would have never thought to paint the lamps. They are beautiful! OK, now I really need to put my thinking cap on:) Thank you so much for sharing, and as always many blessings to you and yours...

What a treat to see the 'new' at Grimmwood and Nanaland this morning, Arlene! I love your ladder and that cathedral quilt is a beauty. What a great way to redo your lamps by a fresh coat of paint and lampshades.

Which Command hooks did you use for your Gallery wall? Curious to know how they keep the pictures from not 'wiggling'.

Enjoy your day!

Loved seeing both your homes! Really love your grouping of your stitches!
Don’t you love redeeming something instead of replacing it? That being said, I’m in the market for a couple of new lamps. Not really new since I’ll most likely get them at the thrift stores!
Everything looks so pretty in both your places! Two real homes! Here at the ranch we will always be glamping!

I love the ladder with the quilt on it. Perfect! Your lamps look brand new! Those command hooks are great! I even used bigger ones to put up curtain rods! They are amazing!

Everything looks wonderful, Arlene! I particularly like the apple green lamps -- and yes, doesn't a new lampshade (or two) do wonders?!

Thank you! Now I know what to do with a bundle of fabric that I've had for such a long time! I love cathedral window quilts and have it on my "quilty bucket list" to make one! Looks like it's time to get started.... :-)
